I am going to start giving a recount of the week in this space each week. It will replace the newsletter, but will basically do the same thing in a new format. We eliminated ten positions in the existing budget to respond to the economic downturn and we are trying to do a lot of things more efficiently through the use of technology. If you can just bare with us until we get a little more proficient and figure out how to allocate time to the various task, I think we will get back in the swing of things quickly. I enjoy doing the newsletter and really appreciate your feedback, so here we go!
Speaking of using technology, we are switching to a paperless agenda for City Council Meetings. We tried this once before, maybe ten years ago and it just did not work, because the technology just wasn’t where we needed it to be. Now it is great and we are switching the Council to IPAD’s which will save us countless hours of collating, printing, and delivering these 300 page packets that they have to peruse every two weeks. We have been receiving the documents and attachments electronically for the agenda for a number of years. We would then print all of those documents for council and about twenty staff members, so it will save us a ton of time and it will provide the Council with a much more portable and efficient agenda packet. This allows us to work smarter and utilize our staff time better.
