When the owner of Arthur’s Prime Steaks & Seafood, St. Martin’s Wine Bistro, and The Bowen House was looking for a location to begin his foray into casual dining that eventually became Duke’s Icehouse, he stopped at the corner of Addison Road and Keller Springs Road and assessed the facility that formerly housed the Outer Marker. That put Duke’s Icehouse on the airport and right down the street from restaurant row. Nice to have an eatery on the airport that offers lunch and dinner, as well as an after-work happy hour, in a nonsmoking, family friendly environment.
“The airport is one of Addison’s biggest features,” said General Manager Stan Wood, and so far business has delivered on what he thought was a good location. After a substantial remodeling, Duke’s Icehouse opened on September 1, 2014. Supported by airport people and the city employees who work in the area, Duke’s reached the break-even point shortly thereafter and the business continues to grow.
Video screens, including one at every booth, connect patrons to almost every sport played by humans. A full bar and wine list is complimented by a menu that ranges from pizza, Tex-Mex and sandwiches (including a “half-pound burger that customers are raving about,” said Wood), to soups, salads, fish, and Duke’s favorites, Chicken Friend Steak and Chicken Fried Chicken. Online reviews seem to agree the food is above average.
Stan Wood added that Duke’s will “host your game watch party in our dining room or elevated bar area.” And if you have a favorite team or sporting event, let the friendly staff know and they’ll make it all happen.
For the Google Maps users, the folks at Duke’s are waiting to meet you at 16101 Addison Rd.
