WaterTower Theatre held a press conference on Thursday, December 15 to welcome Joanie Schultz as the new Artistic Director. After narrowing a list of more than 100 applicants across North America, the Board decided that Joanie was the candidate who stood out among others, and an individual who can bring a fresh perspective to a culturally diverse organization with energy and artistic maturity. Mayor Todd Meier, Deputy Mayor Ivan Hughes and Council Members Al Angell and Dale Wilcox were at the event to welcome Joanie to Addison.
Joanie is currently a director of theatre and opera in Chicago, IL, where she lived for the last 20 years. She has been very involved in the theatre community and has experience directing plays in a wide variety of genres. Some of her work includes directing for The Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre, Victory Gardens Theater, and opera companies throughout Chicago. Joanie is passionate about the future of the Watertower Theatre and hopes to produce engaging work that will speak to the audience. She will assume her new position on January 1, 2017.
