On February 9, 2016 Addison Police Officer James Easterling tendered his immediate resignation to the Town and confessed that he had embezzled funds from the Addison Police Association for many years. Police Chief Paul Spencer immediately notified the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office and requested that the Texas Rangers conduct a complete criminal investigation into Mr. Easterling’s activities.
On May 1, 2017, Mr. Easterling formally pled guilty to one count of theft as a State Jail Felony in Dallas County open court. He was required to hand over a cashier’s check for $15,047 made out to the Addison Police Association. Mr. Easterling will not do jail time, but was sentenced to two years of probation through Dallas County. However, with a felony conviction on his record, he will never be able to work as a police officer again.
