On Thursday, November 2, we celebrated the reopening of Addison’s oldest park, Town Park, located at 3799 Sidney Drive. Mayor Joe Chow, Mayor Pro Tempore Ivan Hughes, and Council Member Lori Ward were joined by Town staff, representatives of the playground manufacturer, Landscape Structures, and the installer, Recreation Consultants of Texas, the Chick-Fil-A Cow and lots of neighborhood kids. Many thanks to Chick-Fil-A for providing water and cookies for everyone at the event.
Town Park, Addison’s very first park, opened in 1977. The park is located in the southern part of town near George Bush Elementary. Over the past year, volunteers from Hilton Worldwide and MLW Financial Services have dedicated nearly 300 hours to help Parks staff give Town Park a needed facelift by tearing out landscaping and re-sodding the entire park.
The next step was to replace the 20-year old playground equipment. Town staff did something they haven’t done before. They requested help from the community to select from three playground options and 80 people participated. The design that was recently installed was the community favorite. The installation of the playground and surfacing has already brought new life to Addison’s oldest park.
